Hi guys I have a question regarding my fans on my gtx 980.

The question is, I have read online both fans start at 60c or slighty above. When I run benchmark tests such as FurMark one fan starts at 60c to 62c and the other fan is idle till temps reach around 70c. I have read the msi gtx 980 has independent fans. But when I read th fans start at 60c, shouldnt both fans start spinning at 60c and not one?

Any one with a gtx 980 can confirm theres is the same, I would be greatful thank you.

Solution
It really depends on the card. Some manufacturers set it to run at different temperatures. But if you want both fans to run when you play games then install MSI Afterburner and set the fan curve to maximum. If any of the fans don't run after that then one of the fans is broken.

I have a GTX970 with dual fans and the second fan will only kick in when the GPU thinks it needs it. Usually only one fan will run (and when under minimum load the fans turn off completely).

So does that mean the first fan will kick in at 60c + and the other when the gpu needs it? and what do u mean by under minimum load is that 60c?

Thank you guys

I think thats a bit incorrect. As the msi 980 has independent fan control as in msi afterburner will only run one fan as the other fan is controlled via the bios on the gpu. I just wanted to know if the msi gtx 980 fans both start at 60c or does one start and then the other starts spinning when the gpu needs it.

Like I stated above that is generally what manufacturers do with dual fan GPUs that run in "silent cooling" setups. Yes the other fan will only kick in if the GPU thinks it needs it. The temperature it will kick in at will vary based on the card manufacturer.

Its been confirmed by msi via there website the gtx 980 is the only card with independent fan control. Whereas the 970 both fans can be controller via msi afterburner.

http://uk.msi.com/product/graphics-card/GTX-980-GAMING-4G.html#hero-overview

if someone with a msi 980 can can run a benchmark test and tell em if there gpu fans (both) start at 60c + or is it ne at a time I would be ever greatful

Thanks guys
