You, tom's hardware need to help me. My knowledge of computer is excellent but even for masters this will prove to be a CHALLENGE.

Last week my SSD died so i send it back for my warranty with a RMA but since this will take some time I bought another one while I waited and anyways i always wanted a second one to go with my HDD.

When i brought home my second SSD to replace my first while i wait for it, plugged it in was instantly detect by my motherboard. So i had to reinstall my windows BUT no can't do since my DVD drive wasn't working no more. Nothing would be detected by my BIOS and it would not open so I went out and bought another one.

Back home with my new DVD drive plugged it in and nothing. No power to it and no detection by the BIOS. Could it be the sata data cable ? Or could it be the sata power cable ? So I unplugged my HDD that is a sata HDD and used to wires to connect my DVD drive. Nothing still. Took my DVD drive to my neighbour and unplugged is that was working fine and put mine in.... it was working! Detected by BIOS, showing in device manager in windows.

So it could it be that its defected but only in my computer ? So i switched cables, sata power and sata data cable in my own computer and nothing. So I went out and bought another one and brought back the one i bought even tho it was working fine. So with this second one, same results. Works fine at the neighbour but not mine.

I went into my UEFI bios and played with it. Nothing, switched from ACHI to IDE just in case nothing. My 6x sata ports are active in the bios. Nothing shows in my boot priority except the kingston hyperX SSD and my 1TB HDD.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard ------------------- Asus Maximus Hero VII
Processor ---------------------- I7-4790K 4.0Ghz Intel
Memory -------------------------- 4x Corsair Vengance Pro (1600Mhz) 8GB DDR3
Hard Drive ------------------------ 1x Kingston HyperX 120Gb SSD
1x WD 1TB HDD
Video Card ----------------------- 1x Asus GTX 980 4GB DDR Strix
Graveur/Lecteur ------------------- ASUS DVD±RW 18x Dual Layer
Power Supply -------------------------- Corsair AX760i
Computer Case --------------------- Corsair 750D

So in resume: Computer build November 2014, old SSD broke, bought a new one. Installed it but now I have to re-install my Windows. For so, i need a use my windows DVD but my optical drive stopped working. Bought a new one, and even a second one still nothing. It dosent show in the BIOS. There is power in my sata cable and sata data is fine since i switch them around with the SSD and HDD, every time the HDD and SSD work fine and get detected by the BIOS but never does the DVD drive.

So 1- Could it be i should install windows 10 by USB and then install firmware\drivers so that my dvd drive shows up finally ?
---- When i installed my computer back in 2014 nothing was on since it was the first time I've set the computer up so this can't be it...

2- The BIOS was updated during the year everything was fine and since them the update has made the MOBO not able to recognize optical drives ?
---- This is what i think.

Now all of this is strange and weird and im actually bugged about all this,

Need help!

Thank you.
