hello there i have google fiber and i have a gfrg110 network box it has built in 2.4ghz WiFi and 5ghz WiFi, i have a MSI GE62-apache gaming laptop which has built in intel dual band wireless ac3160 WiFi so i can use the 5ghz band, my laptop is downstairs in the finished basement and sometimes i experience lag with playing games, or i see a high ping this is not all the time just sometimes. my desktop gets a download speed of about 918 Mbps and my laptop gets about 80Mbps, My current setup is as follows i have a hard lined ethernet cable plugged into the network box running into the basement plugged up to a TP-Link gig switch, i have my desktop computer and my smart tv plugged into the switch also, can i plug in a wifi repeater or something to the switch to extend the 5ghz wifi signal so that its like my laptop is in the same room as my network box or do i need a router or something else to get what i desire or am i just being unreasonable??
thanks for looking

Solution
You can do that by adding another wireless access point to repeat the wireless signal.
But can't you simply use an ethernet cable, you will realistically get Gigabit speed over ethernet than wifi and is more stable.
