Hey all,

I've been having this issue for more then 3 months now but was unable to find the issue and now im just asking for a little help.

I have:
H87 Fata1ity Motherboard
Intel i5-4690
Hyper x 8GB RAM
Cooler Master V550

so not so long ago, (4 months ago) my pc shut down suddenly i waited around 3 hours before i turned it back on. When i turned it back on, i played a few games and i realised i've been getting really really bad FPS drops
If I am gaming, my FPS will drop from a steady 50-60 FPS to an unbearable 10-15 FPS

I have cleaned out my whole PC on this inside and cleaned out my graphics card with an air compressor and still have the same issue

this is a screenshot of my PC while playing games.

If anyone had a similar issue and is willing to help PLEASE DO!
Thank you!!

Solution

I don't know what country you are in or your budget but one I would recommend is the EVGA G2 650w which is $100 at NewEgg
The PC shutting down is a symptom of a faulty PSU but can also be due to high temps, for example the CPU. If your CPU temps are under 70-75c while gaming then that's fine and I'd recommend doing a DDU reinstall of the drivers. If that doesn't help, do you have a spare, suitable PSU to try in your rig?

what would be a cheap suitable PSU to purchase?

is there another way to fix this solution besides buying another PSU? sorry if the question is a bit silly but im just wondering.

If it is the PSU that's causing the issue, then there's nothing you can do besides buying a new one or sending it for RMA. Do you know what your load voltages are?

Hey, i tried my friends PSU v650 coolermaster and i still get the same results... heavy fps drops.
its my GFX, im not sure how to fix this... does this mean i have to get a new one?

Is his PC suitable to hold your GPU? If you could test it in his that would help a lot in working out the cause. Do you have anything running that you can close?

yes, everytime i play games... :( eg. in CSGO i would have to cap my fps at 50 so it doesnt drop as bad.

That sounds like a temp/throttling issue, did you already show me your CPU temps after gaming?

I don't know about your friends system but it seems like your cooler isn't seated properly, the CPU is thermal throttling to save itself which is why you are having performance issues and shutdowns. I'd recommend checking the fan is working, reapplying the paste and reseating your cooler. Tell your friend to look at his temps too, he may have the same issue.
