Hey all, I will be undertaking my first ever build soon and I have picked out the following components:

-Graphics Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4GB
-CPU: Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3
-RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury HX318C10FRK2/8 8GB (2x4GB) Red
-Motherboard: MSI H97 Gaming 3 Motherboard
-PSU: EVGA 600B 600W Power Supply
-Case: NZXT S340 Mid Tower Case Black
-HDD: Western Digital WD Blue 2TB WD20EZRZ
-SDD: Intel 535 Series 240GB 2.5in SSD

I will be using this for my upcoming Computer Science degree and as a gaming PC for games including GTA 5, Dying Light and Fallout 4. It gets quite hot where I live in Australia so would it be worth investing in any additional cooling, and if so, what type? I currently do not wish to overclock the PC at any point. Also, I will be buying the CPU, RAM and motherboard together in a cheap bundle, so I would much rather stick with my current options for these. Is this a good gaming build and is there anything I should change as an improvement?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

I'd go for a samsung evo 850 for the SSD, most likely 1tb HDD, unless you store a huge load of media. Also for gaming the Xeons are just not good. I know you want the whole package since its cheaper, but it just is not good. An i5-6600k with Z170 and DDR4 ram would provide better performance and longer life. Also if you stick with the xeon you can use the default cooler as you will not be overclocking and it is more than sufficient.

OK FIRST OF ALL you need at least 1 120mm in the fron as a must have, next is either 2 120mm in front and 2 top you will run level in temps or get a good CPU cooler and just use the 1 in front or 1 front 1 top for good airflow more ram maybe and other than that your bulding a MONSTER

Since I could get the Xeon with a cheap bundle, it would cost an extra AU$50 (US$34.88) to get the 4690K with the same mobo and RAM. Is the performance difference really worth the added cost?

ther arnt any bad reiews over the xeon but the i line of intel is much better plus think of 34us dllrs for a more better peace of mind xeon is better for like video editting where you need more threads but yea i would go with i5 i have i3-2120 and 4690k has as good performance than i7 for games as an example i5 is just more a a secure rout for life and performance
