Can't connect GPU to Monitor with DVI

So basically, whenever I plug the DVI cable into the motherboard input, it boots and works fine. But when I try booting the computer with the DVI plugged into the graphics card, I get a "No video input" message on my monitor. Help please!

have you connected the extra power cables to the graphics card?

Have you checked to see if the onboard is disabled in BIOS ? [ obviously that should be automatic but sometimes its not ]

Have you tried the graphics card in another computer?
