2 6-Pin and 8-pin Cables capability

In a 2 6-pin and 8-pin cable is it possible to connect 1 6-pin to the GTX970 and the other to the power supply and not use the 8-pin at all

This is because Ive gotten a gtx 970 with a 2x 6-pin to 8-pin cable while i already have an 8 pin cable

You need to only use the cables from the power supply not any adapters that might of came with the video card.
If your video card needs 2 X 6 pin the use them right from the power supply, if it needs a 6 pin and a 8 pin then the same thing right form the PSU.
