hello i really want to buy an ultra wide 2560 x 1080 monitor but im not sure about a few thing.

firstly can i handle gaming in 2560x1080 my specs are GTX 970, i7 4790 (non k) 10gb ram

secondly what happens when i find a game i cant run on max and i want to drop the resolution a little to say 1920x1080 what will it look like will it use all my screen, will it have giant black bars, will it turn into a blury mess.
if someone could show a picture demonstrating this i would really appreciate it.

i play alot of arma and the biggest issue with that game is its fps ive finally got a system that can handle arma 3 great. but now i want a new monitor so is arma 3 going to be unplayable for me again if i play in 2560x1080 and if so whats going to happen if i need to play in normal 1080p

thank you for your time :)

I don't think so, however you can change the options in game to fit 2560x1080. DayZ standalone supports the widescreen so I imagine ArmA 3 would as well.

In addition to the titles shown above we tested a few more including Armed Assault 3 (ArmA III) and Portal 2. They fully supported the resolution and aspect ratio without any issues. In fact the only issue we came across was on Mass Effect 3. As shown in the screenshots the actual game worked fine, but the menu system didn’t display correctly and basically had the bottom part of the screen chopped off.

With that setup you should be quite good, im still pushing an old Phenom II X6 T1090T @ 4.2GHz and a GTX970 aswell, I run most games at near max settings @ a 2K with little issue and an average framerate of 40fps avg.

If you wish to play games at 1920x1080 on that screen you have the choice in nvidia control panel to either scale it to the full screen (stretch it essentially), or to just the right size with black bars on the left and right of the screen.

The ultrawides are nice, but I prefer 16:9 2560x1440 (1440p) to 21:9 2560x1080
