Hey guys!

I'd love your expert advice on this.

I'm planning on buying new 16 gb RAM [2x8] to replace my 8GB [8x1] DDR3 stick.
I'm stuck between deciding on either 1600MHz or 2400MHz.

Either:

My motherboard supports up to 1600 without O.C and up to 3000 with O.C.
Will I really feel a difference between 1600 and 2400, taking in mind il have to O.C my motherboard if im taking the 2400 one?

What I mostly do is lots of gaming and skype, usually at the same time.

My specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87-HD3
CPU: Intel i5 4670K
GPU: AMD MSI R9 290

Thanks!

Its only a 5 dollar difference so I dont mind the price but are you sure its going to run without O.C? The Gigabyte Z87-HD3 website's spec says 2400 is only with O.C.
And what about the difference in volt? 1600 takes 1.5 and 2400 1.65.

Im actually thinking of O.Cing my CPU too, since I've got the unlocked version I might as well get more kick out of my computer.
In that situation would you advice going for the 2400? or should I still stick with the 1600 one.?

Sounds fantastic!

I know its like the hundredth question but theres just so many things that I haven't made up my mind about.
A friend's been telling me for the past hour that overclocking my CPU isnt going to show any difference in a gaming computer and that its a wasted risk [OCing my CPU and afterwards my Mobo for 2400mhz].
Can I get your opinion on that?

As far as games go, it depends on the game. Many if not most are more GPU oriented, but there are a number of them that are more CPU centric, those would benefit the most from OCing, (again though, even the GPU oriented games can show gains in some games). Ocing is no big deal, as mentioned I OC about everything I build except those where the client does it themselves. Since the introduction of the K model CPUs in 2011, those are all I do client builds on, I don't build on locked CPUs and with the exception of my own AMD rig, I don't build on AMD. If nothing else, can think of it as you have a strong CPU at stock, down the road if you think it's lagging, you have your own CPU upgrade just waiting for you for free, and during the time between now and then you can do a little research on OCing. Basic OCing is easy, when you start trying to get to very high OCs is when it gets more complex

I see, I think I'll do that, when I feel that my PC is lagging behind, I'll OC it.
So if I get that 2400MHz ram is it going to downclock itself to 1600? and also will it change timing, voltage and cas latency by itself?
If not, what should I change it into?
What do you think about OCing a GPU instead?
If thats the thing that'll grant me significant extra power in gaming, maybe thats what I should look into.
