what's the difference between the rams?

Hello all,

Looking to upgrade my ram from 8gb to 16gb.

I kind of confused at what the differences are between the RAM models I'm looking at (listed below). The only differences I see are the CAS timings/DRAM speed. Is there any benefit/noticeable performance differences between the various setups? If so, which model of the listed (or if there's a better choice in same price range) should I get? Thanks!

For reference, I use a Asrock Extreme4 Z77 + i5 3570k.

G.Skill Ripjaws - (why such a huge difference in number of reviews/rating between red/blue?)

Yes out of the four you linked thats what I would go for, I will take a l look and see if there is anything better for the same price. You dont really want 4 dimms on a z77 mobo anyways that would stress the memory controller 2 sticks is better for that platform. As far as i know other than the speeds the ripjaws and snipers are exactly the same other than the heatsink. No you dont need heat spreaders at all on ram to be honest, its just for looks (unless you plan to do some ram overclocking it might help i suppose).

Well for the ripjaws the blue version is better, both red and blue are the same speed but the blue has tighter timings.

The sniper series has smaller heat spreaders better for systems with big air coolers or if your just tight on room. They are faster than the linked ripjaws the snipers run at 1866mhz instead of 1600mhz on the ripjaws. The one I linked below is better again due to better timings: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231627&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-VigLink2-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3821802&SID=ijaduhrpj6000a1700053

I see. CAS 9 > the rest. So would your suggestion be the sniper CAS 9s (the ones you linked?) over the Ripjaws, given that they're the same price with slightly higher specs? I currently use Ripjaws (2x4's, not sure of the specs) since that was the popular model a few years back when I built my PC. Not as familiar with the Sniper series. Also, I'm not particular tight on space in a dual channel setup (I would be if I went 4x4's or something, since I use a Hyper Evo 212 CPU cooler, and those things are bulky). Would the smaller heat spreaders be a problem in terms of heat dispersion? Granted I don't really stress my system too much, but I'd like to not have to worry about heat/air cooling problems.
