Hmmm, I've a similar setup, the i7 CPU, 16 gig Corsair Vengence, Krait bah at work, can't remember the exact name, anyway the mobo is the black and white one with the snake BIOS screen and the 10 fan hub on the back, military this and that it claims, anyway, you'll see them all over the place, and you probably can figure out the one I'm talking about, because now that I already have built my rig they are on sale anyway. Mobo is a Black box with a Cobra on the front. MSI. Board black and white only (apologies, I'll edit when I'm home.) Nice big Corsair PS 750, crappy stock cooler on the I7.
A recently installed new GPU 970 Nvidia factory overclocked.
My Evo heatsink/cooler should be coming in the mail today I hope! (Heat issues)
I think that's almost enough info about my build. I have pics. Can we upload pictures here???
My question is about airflow (Again) As you know, my NZXT 530 Source case has removable cages on the front. It was heating up the CPU was heating up like a mofo, so I had to remove a couple of the middle cages, and moved my 2 internal SATA hard drives to the bottom case that Holds 2 ... (things).
Long story short If I put a fan in the front (intake) The really big one, will it still work well. I know the airflow is supposed to be (front)->------/(back)-->. The reason I asked is that if I put in the big fan in front, the middle is wide open, lots of space, but it's blocked a bit by my 2 sata hard drives on the bottom, and my optical drive and 2 empty bays on top. Is it a waste to an intake fan that big on the front if there are a couple things (kinda) in it's way?
Am I better off just getting a 120mm or a 140? It can fit 2 140s, or 3 120mms, or one big one (don't have my manual again, sorry).
If you have an answer or a link, I'd really, really appreciate it. There's def. room to mount any of the 3 sizes of fans, I'm just wondering if it will do it's (big) job well if the middle is wide open but the top and bottom are covered a little bit by other components.
I'm new here, so please forgive me if I put this in the wrong section, I'm on lunch, and don't have time right now, but am trying to get an answer by 4:00 so I can stop at M****** center to pick up fans on the way home. So.... welcome me! Thanks for any advice. I have used this site a lot but just registered. Love it. OOO
