hi i brought a pc and i think its great. it runs all games i play at a good resolution and has no problem with them. however on my windows experience score my score was a 5.9 because of my disk transfer. ( the rest were over 7 which was great but i wanted to know why that was so low.) would buying an ssd work or is it just not worth the money?

pc specs:
1tb seagate barrucuda hd
gtx 960 2gb
amd fx 6350 hex core cpu

If the op has a decent motherboard and cooler, overclocking the fx 6350 would be a boost in performance. Obviously it doesn't make sense to go out and buy a new motherboard if they don't, but they haven't said which board they have. Even if using the stock cooler, a 212 evo can be had for under $30 - much cheaper than $300 for a new cpu/mobo, $400 if they need a new copy of windows.

Not really a waste of time or money if that's the case.

Granted this is the 8350, but the concept is the same. An overclock gained the fx 8350 11fps on the min side for skyrim which means less fps drops since the game runs at 60fps.

Provided it doesn't mean rebuilding half the system...

actually i upgraded by pc from hdd raid 0 to sdd. what a difference in everything: Windows boot time, game&apps loading system snappiness!

So get a nice ssd (850 evo/pro) 250gb and will change your PC in good. 850 Evo 250gb will not cost you more than 100$ maybe even less than 90$...

Single best upgrade that you can do to your decent PC: from hdd to ssd... :)

Exactly, windows experience index is a bit of a joke really. The low score comes from the hard drive and the experience rating is based on the lowest subset score. For example if you had an i3 with a gtx 960 or an i7 with gtx 980ti it would still likely come up 5.9 with a mechanical hard drive so according to windows both systems are the same right? Not hardly.

It also doesn't tell you what performance to expect from upgrading and as other said, the ssd will improve boot times, initial game loading and chapter loading but has little to nothing to do with fps. An expensive upgrade for little to no gain. Instead of blowing $100 on an ssd, sell the 960 and add $100 and some change to it and buy a 970, your performance will likely be far better (depending on the games you play) than adding an ssd.

Or in the case of the fx 6350, provided you have a decent motherboard, make sure you have a decent cooler and overclock it if it's not already.

Admirable
You only need to change something on your PC when it won't run your new game properly or you get sick of waiting for the PC to start up.
Until then, overclocking, upgrading etc is just wasted time and money.
Computer parts always get quicker and cheaper, so you always get more for your money if you wait until later.

Provided it doesn't mean rebuilding half the system, overclocking is a means of making the most of what you've got.
