I'm getting a gaming PC in a weeks time and these are the current main specs:

CPU: INTEL® Core™ i7-6700K Quad Core 4.00 GHz 8MB Cache LGA1151 + HD Graphics *** Pro OC ***

MEMORY: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4/2400mhz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair Vengeance LPX w/ Heat Spreader)

VIDEO: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card (Single Card)

POWERSUPPLY: 700 Watts Power Supplies (Cooler Master 700 Watts B700 B2 Gaming Power Supply, 80+)

I've been wondering if the i7-6700k is to much for the GTX 970 and what CPU I should possibly get instead. I appreciate any replies I get.

Solution
You dont need the i7 for mostly gaming. Even an i5 6400 would work, maybe not as well in CPU intensive games, but still it would work. You may use the money you save for other things, like an SSD, bigger video card, or monitor. Of course, if you have the money, it wont hurt, either. :)

Thanks for the reply. But do you think that games could possibly started using more threads in the future? Because I want to keep for up to 3 years.
