How to reduce CPU bottleneck?

I get REALLY bad bottleneck....is there a way to reduce it by changing certain settings or doing something other than overclocking my CPU because when I do that my PC force restarts...

Specs :

Asus Strix GTX 970 4GB
X4 760K 4.0GHz
MSI 2AE0
10GB DDR3
600W EVGA PSU

I'm upgrading to a i5 2500K but that won't be for a while and I'd like to game in smoothness now :(

I get a VERY unstable 25-100fps on most games....help :(

It's better than nothing, I can get one second hand with warranty for under £100 so....it's the best I can do for now.

Well that won't be anytime soon, I'm young so no job. i5 2500K is the best I can do, and that's not for a month yet.
