You are better off making a list on Pcpartpicker and posting it and people will suggest other parts/verify your list.

Windows 8.1 keys are really cheap from reputable sources at the moment so I wouldn't worry so much about needing the OS.

Also I would suggest getting your funds together and then planning the build. With the way components are released and the way prices fluctuate a plan for a build right now might not be the best one even a week or two from now.

to play future games mean you need a pretty high end gpu that is available now. gtx980 will cost you $730aud at msy alone. 970 might not be that future proof, unless you are will to sacrifice gaming experience (lower texture quality) in the future.
With 1000aud, most likely you will be getting a gtx970 or similar from amd side, a decent powerful psu will set u back about $150 and a i5 will set u back about 200to 250 again, and this doesnt include ram and ssd+harddrives and case.

I wouldn't recommend a gtx 980 unless you can get an extremely good deal on one. Mine were 329USD when the normal price was 500+ which is the only reason I got them. I would recommend a 970\390 for the price\performance.

I always feel bad when I see an aussie building a PC. It costs you guys so much more than us and that makes me sad :(
