I'm getting a 6700k and am not sure what cooler to use.

Would a Cryorig h7 be good enough to cool a 6700k at stock speed adequately? I want it to stay nice and cool but don't want to spend too much money on a cooler if I don't have to.

Thank you

For stock speeds, yes. Even for a mild overclock. If you want to overclock to something like 4.5Ghz I'd recommend going with at least an H5 for about 45 bucks, or something a little higher end like a Noctua NH-U14S. For stock speeds though, that H7 is perfectly fine. I too have a 6700k, and my NH-U14S keeps it exceptionally cool at 4.5Ghz, never breaking 63°C even during a small FFT run in Prime95.

I want to get the h5 but a friend of mine said you need at least 20mm of clearance to account for the cpu an mobo.
I'm getting a Deepcool kendomen, which has room for coolers up to 165mm and the h5 is 160mm, and that's only 5mms clearance so im really not sure if it will fit :/

It will fit. Those measurements already factor in any other considerations. If the case says a 165mm cooler will fit, then it will fit. Even a 165mm cooler SHOULD fit, although it might be a close thing. A 160mm cooler should be no problem whatsoever. Motherboard and CPU height are already accounted for in the specifications.
