Both are very good brands. I personally prefer the SSD version of the ASUS laptops, but they are pretty expensive - so I can't normally afford one.

From my perspective, the ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH74 is one of the best mid-range gaming laptops. It is a 15.6" model with a 1080p IPS display that has G-Sync. The graphics are provided by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960m with 4GB of memory, so it can play basically anything at high settings or better. The laptop comes with 16GB of memory.

It uses an SSD, but the 128GB one that is included doesn't really have enough space for much more than the operating system (it does have a hard drive too). I would replace the SSD with a 512GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2 drive, since the stock SSD is an M.2 SATA drive. I would also just remove the included 1TB 2.5" disk drive, since it adds weight and is based on older technology.

Of course, the keyboard has a back light- but only in red.

The reason to get an SSD an immediately replace it is to get the mounting screw and still have the ability to RMA it if something goes wrong. I usually just box the drive that comes with my gaming laptop, so no confidential information is on it if I have to return it (and that way I get no junk software).

I do assume that you are comfortable installing your own operating system and loading drivers, though.

Let me know if you want any other suggestions or desire different specifications (Is 1080p okay? Is there a budget? What size of laptop? Is battery usage important?).

The first one is an ASUS, but it has had many issues with overheating. I would tend to avoid it. The 4k display isn't a good thing since it is only using a GeForce GTX 960m, either. That video is good for 1080p, okay with 1200p, and pretty bad with 2160p (4k).

The Lenovo uses a keyboard that has a cheap feel to it, but the screen quality is pretty good - which unusual for Lenovo laptops. The overall build of the laptop is not very solid, so I tend to stay away from it as well. If you are a careful person, so that the chassis strength is not an issue, you should see if you can find one of these at a physical store to try it out.

The last ASUS unit on your list is pretty good, but it is an older model and is pretty chunky (both heavy and bulky). I would tend to skip it because of the weight and the fact that it is a model that was released more than a year ago.

What country are you in? What MSI laptops are available where you are?

Drat. All of the MSI laptops use their integrated build style, so upgrading or replacing components means disassembling the laptop. This includes battery replacement.

That build style does make them thinner, and a little lighter than most of the ASUS models. But they can only run on battery for about two hours.

The MSI GS60 Ghost Pro model that you list is over a year old. The new model would be one of my top picks, but this one is one that I would avoid.

The MSI GS70 Stealth model only has 2GB of video memory, and newer games really need around 3GB for 1080p gaming on high or better. It also has a poor track pad as well. In my mind this is the worst MSI laptop that you listed.

The last few models are MSI GE62 laptops. They are lower end models, but perform pretty well. The third laptop in the list should be avoided, since it only has 8GB of memory and the MSI laptops are very difficult to modify components.

Since newer games need more video memory, only the two MSI GE62 laptop models that have 3GB of video memory would play well.

That leaves either the fourth or seventh laptops in the list.

The last laptop on the list would be the fastest, since it runs the operating system off of an SSD. It would not be noticeably faster in games, but it would boot faster and shut down quicker than the other one.

Overall, that would be my general recommendation of all of the laptops that you have listed if you were going to make a purchase soon. Because of where you live, the laptop models are usually available 3 to 6 months later than in the USA or Europe. If you can wait a while, the newer models of the laptops that I mentioned as being old models should arrive by around April.

Good luck!
