I am looking to buy a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 to add to my PC, i was wondering if it would be compatible with my current build. My build is below:

Case Built In - Vantage Red Gaming Case with LED Fans

Motherboard - Gigabyte F2A68HM-HD2
Motherboard Expansion - 1x PCI Express x16, 1x PCI Express x1, 1x PCI

CPU Type - AMD FM2 Quad Core
CPU Model - AMD FM2 A8 6600K 3.9ghz Quad Core
CPU Socket - AMD FM2
CPU Speed - 3.9 Ghz
CPU Max Turbo Clock Speed - 4.2 Ghz
CPU Cooler - Standard AMD Cooler

Graphics Card - Onboard AMD Radeon HD 8570D
PSU Size - 500 Watt Power Supply With 12cm Fan

I would also like to know if its worth getting a 970 without upgrading my CPU or if a 960 would be better.

Thanks

We really need to know your PSU make and model to give an accurate reply, not all 500w are the same, cheap ones are junk and wont safely run a 970.

With your CPU I wouldnt go above a 960 anyway due to it being a quite low end.

I beleive my PSU is a fairly cheap one, can you recommend a better one? And also would i not see any diffrence from the 960 to 970 because of my cpu?

Yeah in many games your cpu would just hold back the performance, so a 970 may be a waste of money. I would go with a 960 based on your specs, which would still be a HUGE boost in performance over your current graphics.

A 500w by Seasonic/XFX/Superflower would be a good option.

In addition to that then, would getting a 970 and upgrading the cpu at a later date be a good option? If so what CPU would you recommend?

Ok, would you be able to recommend a motherboard that would be compatible with an i5 (and also which i5 is best for gaming purposes) and support an nvidia gtx 970 G1? I am on a slight budget due to needing to buy a new CPU aswell so it needs to be kind of cheap but still decent.

Would that also require any other changes to my rig if i change the mother board?

I looked at the following upgrades that when calculated on http://powersupplycalculator.net/ came to around a 450w psu being needed, is it worth getting a more known 500w or a 600w?

Intel Core i5 4690k
MSI Z97 PC Mate Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard
MSI Geforce GTX 970 GEF GTX970

These as far as im aware should also all be compatible correct?

Would you say water cooling is worth it for the i5, in the case of overclocking and running at stock speeds?

Not really unless you really want to push for good overclocks. You can still do overclocking with good air coolers. To be honest, even at stock clock speed the i5 is miles faster than your A8 so I would only go for it if its something that your interested in, you wont "need" to overclock.
