my new build is very slow at reading and writing in parallel

Hello to all

I have just assembled a new system with the following configuration:

MB: ASUS z170 pro gaming
CPU: Intel core i5 6600k 3.5 GHz
RAM: G. Skill 2x8 GB DDR4 2400 MHz
PSU: Green 600w

I have used my old pc's component for the rest (including hard drive, graphic card, DVD writer).
However I am facing a problem which I will try to describe below:

I usually use ANSYS fluent to perform numerical simulation for academic works. When I use Fluent in serial mode, there is no problem! However when I start fluent in parallel with 2 or 4 cores the process of reading case and data for an specific simulation is very very slow (more than 10 minutes)

I mean, even my 7 year old laptop with Intel core 2 due @ 2.93 GHz and 4 GB DDR2 ram is way faster in reading the same case and data in parallel mode with 2 cores (less than a minute)

Buffering for file scan is also much slower in my new system!
Can anyone help me to determine what is wrong with my new system?

Best wishes and thanks in advance

I'm always impressed when people are smart enough to use these advanced tools. But then I shake my head when they omit details that are germane - such as complaining about read/write speed and not telling us what the harddrive configuration and models are. Leaving us to guess as to possible causes.

So here's my best guess. Your hard drive is woefully slow and fragmented. Possibly you even failed to re-install the operating system after the upgrade. So your drivers etc. might not be optimal. on a system like that, you might get great performance by incorporating a SSD for your data - provided the harddrive or SSD is in AHCI mode.

really appreciate your help mate...
Sorry if I have missed necessary information:)

The hard drive is seagate barracuda 7200.12 SATA II in AHCI mode!
I have already tried re-installing windows and corresponding drivers several times...

The problem is everything is normal when I perform serial simulation on the new system and it takes less than a minute to read the case and data files. However when I try to read the same case and data in parallel mode it takes more than 10 minutes...

When I look at the task manager cpu usage it at 80% and Ram usage at 54%, but the hard drive is at 0%...

Start using the scientific method. :)

Observe activity during a single simulation. Open Windows Resource Monitor and observe processor, Memory and Disk activity.

Now you have a base line for utilization.

Start the first simulation again - while it is in progress, start a 2nd. See which resources increase or show contention.

Also consider that if you do parallel simulations, do the software obtain locks on the input/output data to ensure integrity? Do the software support running parallel simulations on same data set? If so, I'm sure they have some support resources that will have advice , recommendations and guidelines.

10 minutes with 0% disk activity sounds like a lock on the data.

thank you very much!! this sentence from you just saved my life:) --->>> "Start using the scientific method"
I have monitored every process while reading my case in parallel fluent and I have found out that a service called ASUS Gamer first III service was using up to 5% of cpu every time I tried to read my case and data in fluent!

Uninstalled ASUS Gamer first III and the problem is gone!:bounce:
This software (allows user customization of network traffic) was some how interfering with my network...
It was installed when I was installing ASUS mb drivers from the support DVD
