I have a buddy who is wanting a system that needs to support 6 monitors and run Youtube and and browse the internet smoothly, all at the same time. He bets/trades a lot so he needs a lot of monitors to keep his eye on everything at once. He's already bought the monitors and the stand. He also doesn't want anything fancy. He won't be gaming or doing anything too intensive.

I've never built such a high monitor system so I'm not exactly sure how to do it aside from dropping two graphics cards in the build and run 2 monitors from each card and 2 from the mobo.

I also don't know what CPU or how much RAM and of what speed he will need. Would you guys mind helping me?

The monitors he has bought are Acer s24HLbmid

It's a decent set up, but as I mentioned with my build, overkill. For just a day-trading system, you could probably get by with an I3-6100 and 8GB of RAM. You wouldn't need a third party cooler or extra thermal compound. Finally, if he's serious about his trades, he'll want a wired Ethernet connection, so you can drop the Wi-Fi adapter. So closer to this:

Well. One possible build. You didn't give any type of budget range and this might be somewhat overkill for your friend's needs, but:

That graphics card has 6xMini-Display port outputs. I've included 6 mini-displayport to HDMI cables to connect his displays.

Three monitors can be ran from the onboard graphics (HDMI, DVI, D-Sub), then three from the fanless GTX 750 (DVI, HDMI, DP). Ideally, they should be considering an i7 with 16GB of memory...

This is all you really need:
Notice the videcard comes with 6 Mini-Display Ports, and for the monitors he already bought, also need 6 x Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D adapters. They are relatively cheap and can be bought for less than $10 a piece.

Stick with 1 videocard, and you won´t run into driver issues.
I´ve chosen a fast skylake cpu, because it sounds like he will have alot of programs running at once.
8 GB ram should be more than enough, unless he´s running heavier tasks. This can easily be upgraded.
120 GB SSD should be enough for windows and most used programs, but can be expanded to 250 easily as well

Is this a good set up? We are trying to get as cheap as possible while still maintaining good quality.

Also, these adapters are marketed toward Apple products but will they work for this Windows-based PC?

Well he asked specifically for the 8GB RAM upgrade and he asked for the WiFi connection too. So aside from those being added, the build you posted will be just fine, correct?

Change the PSU (CX series are not meant for temps higher than 30c before capacitors are prone to fail)
Change the optical drive (f.x. to a cheap LG), Lite-On iHAS has poor build quality and the read/write speeds are inconsistant. Possibly consider skipping optical drive all together (how often do you really need it today, and windows can be bought with USB install)

Hi Cusconsillow,

How did this build turn out? I am curious, being I have been battling a 6 monitor setup myself.

Thanks
