Hey guys. Soon I hope on doing a big PC upgrade, I plan on a new motherboard, GPU and CPU. I have a few questions on what CPU I should get,
Questions:
1. Intel i7 6700k vs i7 5820k vs i7 4790k (Which is better for gaming)
2. I've been reading about the i7 5820k, apparently you need an expensive motherboard, if so what motherboard is it and is it worth it?
3. What will get you more FPS (With GTX 980 / 980ti)
4. Which is the best for rendering / streaming

If youre building a new computer up, not using Skylake is a bad idea. The i7 6700k and compatible motherboard is the way to go as it opens you to future upgrades as it gets developed more.

As for more FPS the 980ti is the way to go with it of course, if you can afford it there is no reason not to.

Now as for your Corsair PSU what model is it (CX, RM, ?), if its a CX you'll want to replace that too.

The 5780k is a Hawell-E series chip, it has six cores. The other two are your standard issue 4 core CPUs. So if you want to go all out with lots of ram and multiple GPUs than the 5780k is the way to go.

If that's not what you intend to do then just go with the 6700k unless you're really trying to pinch pennies than the 4790k is just fine.

Side note the Broadwell-E series is coming in 2nd quarter of this year. So if you really want to go all out it might be worth it to wait for it to roll out instead of the Haswell-E series.

So you suggest going with the i7 6700k? What motherboard do you suggest also?

I currently have a Corsair 750W PSU, not sure if it's CX or RM.

Until they release skylake extreme options, I would go with the 6700k. Lower price per performance both for the processor and the motherboards that support that socket and it supports DDR4 out of the box (you'll want to make that jump).

If it fits in your budget, I would go with the 980ti or step down to an overclocked 970 and upgrade once Nvidia releases their next generation of graphics cards. 4GB of video memory is enough to get to high and in some cases ultra for all but the most demanding games and texture effect add-ons. Since the 980 does have a larger memory option, you would have to double your price tag to get to 6GB. Does the 980 have more processing cores? Yes. Will that be incredibly noticeable unless you're playing on ultra on triple A titles upwards of 1080p, not enough in my opinion to justify the price for performance jump. A $600 video card isn't likely to ever be in my budget, but it's your wallet.

Alright sweet, hoping to get a part-time job soon so should be able to get the 980ti.
So you think I should get those components for the upgrade?
Cheers for all your help.

I have a quick question, is DDR4 that much better than DDR3?
