I have an ATI Radeon HD5770 I salvaged from an older computer. I'd like to be able to install this in my Dell but I would greatly appreciate some guidance on what I need to do.

Thank you in advance,
Howard

You can use it, all you would need to do after simply putting it in is to put your monitors connection coming from the back of the GPU and install drivers for it. Installing is as easy as popping out a shield at the back, and putting the gpu into the PCI-E slot.

Thank you for your replies.

I installed the card in the computer. My computer didn't have a power cord/plug available so I took a salvaged power supply and connected it to the card. The power supply sits external to the computer. I also downloaded and installed the AMD drivers for the card.

Nothing is happening. When I check the device manager, the only Display adapter shown is the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600. The ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU is not being recognized even after I've scanned for hardware changes.

How to I make sure the external power supply is actually turned on and supplying power to the card? If it came from a computer, how to I "tell" the power supply to turn on and send power?

Update: I found the paperclip trick for the power supply. I wired PS_ON# to COM so the power supply should be tricked into thinking there is a computer attached and yet the GPU is not being detected by the computer.
