Hi , I am looking to build a new gaming PC for £800 .I wont need any storage or ram keyboard or monitor.Could you guys help? (I also have cooling block piping etc just need a good mobo cpu case and gpu for the money)

Solution
Skylake supports ddr3, but only the real low voltage stuff, which hyper-X is not. Skylake isn't much of an improvement, over haswell.

What sort of RAM do you have already? Will help people make suggestions as that determines compatibility with processor series. For example if it's DDR3 you'd be looking at Haswell Refresh or AMD processors (don't think anything AMD supports DDR4 yet. Might be wrong), whereas newer series like Skylake use DDR4

Also, CPU blocks are not always compatible with all sockets. Check with what sockets it can work.

You pretty much just replied before I could and answered what I was going to ask is all.

Regarding backwards compatibility, I know for sure that the newest Intel processors (Skylake series) don't support DDR3 RAM. It has to be DDR4. If you want to use the RAM you have, you'd need to use an older (but still very capable) processor like a Haswell Refresh

I dont mind buying more ram,can use old build for minesweeper or something lol.Just need some advice.I Would probably need a good size case though as would want to add custom water cooling into it.have a custom loop at moment (JACK D bottle as res sits atop my tower but is a little impractical if I need to move my PC around for whatever reason ...)

logainofhades is exactly right. That's the reason I built my dad a gaming machine centered around this processor as opposed to the i5-6600k or anything from Skylake. It's probably the most solid build you'll be able to get for this budget. If you need an OS and don't want to break 800 for cost you should be able drop the GPU back to something like an R9 390 or a GTX970 and pick up the OS itself for not too much more
