Hello! I recently got myself a new GPU (EVGA GTX 980 ti sc+) and on idle the card runs around 64C, with a fan speed of 3-400 rmp. But when I open the Precision X software it ramps up and temps go down to 40C.
I also checked the Nvidia Inspector and it seems the card runs at fucll clockspeed at all times.

Anyone know a fix for this or something? :)

Precision X is intended to control the card, so launching it may effect the onboard GPU BIOS settings. Also make sure it is not sitting in the tray running all the time and forcing the full clock speed.

Check your Windows system performance settings (Power Options -> Performance) You might need to take it down a notch.

Your card will not spin the fans at all until 60C, so 64C at 3-400rpm is about right for the stock settings.

Lastly you could have a program that is using the GPU in some way and causing it to no longer idle. Check for MS Store Apps (8, 8.1, 10) and Widgets in Windows 7 that might be doing it.

It seems like there is an error with the defaulted fan/clock rates...which is why Precision X would provide a revision to the fan profile. Do the clocks show constantly higher in Precision X as well?

Given the cost of the card...I'd first return it from where you purchased it and if that's been too long ago, RMA through EVGA.

I keep Precision X closed and not in the tray, the card only ramps up when I open it. I havent changed anything in that software.
I did not quite understand the Powermanagement you meant I think, did you men like powersaving mode in windows, which I have set to high (as in not saving power)
Other than that i'm using W10 and I dont use any crappy Microsoft store things btw :)

In Precision X the clockspeed says 1101mhz

1101Mhz @ idle? Wow, something is def wrong...*unless you've configured the card to run otherwise*. I would return it
