I built up a PC and I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. I have a hard line from the PC to the modem. I see no flashing LEDs where the cable connects to the integrated port on the motherboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 5) and the modem. I tried using a different cable and I still get nothing. All I see on the monitor is "Not Connected--No Connection are available". How do I get the PC to detect the modem? any ideas? thanks.

but unless the LAN driver is installed it still won't show up the Ethernet in his little tray in the corner because it will just display on device manager as "other devices" windows don't install drivers for you that i know of because all motherboards are different and not all have Ethernet ports.

so I thought I would take a look around and yes you are correct since windows 7 it comes with bunch of drivers but it doesn't always install them I have had hardware that set-up on windows 7-10 that had 0 LAN capability it came under other devices such as if there is like no driver what so ever but i set-up a recent machine for my friend and his LAN driver didn't need updating hardware can be strange sometimes.
