7.94 GB Usable of 12 GB Ram

My MSI A78-E35 motherboard only has two ram slots, I have an 8Gb ram and a 4Gb ram installed and both are recognized with details about each by multiple applications such as AMD Overdrive. However only 7.94 is usable and only 8192MB shows up in the BIOS, even though when I go to board explorer in bios both are shown as installed. I had the same problem trying to use two 4GB sticks
Ive tried many solutions but none seem to work, any advice?

It might be faulty RAM, but I also might be wrong. Go into resource monitor and click the memory tab. Screenshot the graph and post it.

I have had the same problem when using other memory sticks as well but all work individually when placed in the first slot

Make sure you have the latest BIOS, start with the 8GB stick in slot 1, raise the DRAM voltage + 0.05 and the set the CPU/NB voltage to 1.2

That and I increased the DRAM Voltage UP to 1.65v like you suggested

Might be the sticks just don't want to play - happens all the time, often the voltage adjustments will get them to go but not always

Any other suggestions? I really dont want to have to buy a new motherboard to get all my ram

If the sticks came in a single package they should be fine - packaged sticks are tested to play nice - that's why they test, if you just pull sticks right off the assemble line there are no guarantees - that why they test

If the 2 4GB sticks are showing 7.94 - that's perfectly normal - the odd .06 is relegated to hardware

almost as if the board isnt running dual channel properly or theyre not getting enough voltage

Have you tried loosening the CPU cooler then snugging it down screw tight, many overtighten the coolers in a corner or side and the rig can 'lose' a channel

My cpu cooler is the stock built in one so im assuming you just meant to loosen the screws holding the cpu down slightly right? Thats what I did with no luck at all

Loosen then snug down to screw tight, then reseat the DRAM, start it up and see if that fixes itr

Shouldn't be a problem - have you checked for bent/broken pins on the CPU?
