I'm having a strange problem with my system. I have a 4790K on a Gigabyte GA-Z97MX and Corsair AX850.

The thing is: last Sunday I was changing somethings on the pc and after shutting it off on Windows I wasn't able to turn it back on again, the system seemed totally dead with no fan or cooler spin, no H100i led lit or anything. The only life signal was a power led lit on a USB headset. I did everything. Disconnected all PSU cables and did jump start the PSU with a paperclip. Nothing happened. So I went to parent my kids and let the pc there for a few hours. For my total amusement when I came back I was able to turn it on, but again, after shutting off after using the system for a while it looked dead again.

The same happened on Monday and when I got back home from work I managed to start it and use it for a few hours but the problem repeated. Yesterday was a much cooler day and I managed to turn it.off and on back after use.

So what AM I facing here? A faulty PSU or its something else?

Solution
as the pc does turn on it sounds like a bad cap or part in the power supply. that the cap or bad part has to drain for the pc to turn back on. if you have a volt meter check the power good pin on the 24 pin atx cable make sure it within output. if not a pc wont turn on. also if your case uses any boards between the on switch and the mb pins it could be a bad board that not letting on switch work. make sure the reset and power buttons are not broken. if there is a small board unplug the on switch and see if shorting the pins with a screw driver will have the pc turn on. make sure also that the ram..gpu and cpu are seated. if the cpu is not seated it can cause issues.

I've only removed my DVD drive.

Corsair had accepted my RMA request for the PSU, I just want to make sure that the problem is not related with my mobo.

There is no hoard between my case front panel buttons and the mobo and the reset and power switch buttons are ok. The strange thing is that the pc looks totally dead, with no sign of life except for the led in the USB headset.

One thing I forgot to say is that on Monday, after using the pc for 2 hours or more, when I shut it off my USB adapter had its light on for 30 secs or more and the pc didn't turn on if I hit the power button. Last day was cooler than monday and it offs immediately after shutting down the pc who was working normally.

Detail, it is summer here in Brazil and Sunday and Monday were pretty hot days with Temps near 33Celsius, yesterday was raining all day and tells around 20Celsius.
