Hello.

I'm not a gamer but want to buy a decent board which will be around a long time (10 years or more). I plan on using the board for just surfing, web mail and software development and software testing. Which socket (LGA1155 or LGA1150) would be the best way to go ? I don't want to spend more than $100USD on the board and will likely buy an entry level i3 CPU for the board and then the i7's get cheaper some time down the road I'll upgrade the CPU.

Thanks

You chose the board based on your requirements. Dedicated GPU? One dedicated GPU or SLI/crossire? You start with an entry i3 but do you plan on getting a better CPU which can be overclocked, is overclock an option in the future? Asus, msi, asrock and gigabyte are the best brands when it comes to price - performance.

Definitely LGA 1150. LGA 1155 was the predecessor of LGA 1150, so not only will the LGA 1150 boards have access to more powerful CPUs, but the boards will also utilize more modern features (SATA III, USB 3.0, PCIe 2.0/3.0, etc.) that will allow you to use longer-lasting peripherals & components. More powerful/longer-lasting CPUs & components = longer replacement time for the system.
