Hey guys i have a bit of a problem here, i have just purchased this bundle: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/8pack-approved-elite-tier-skylake-atx-bundle-intel-i7-6700k-4.50ghz-z170-viii-hero-16gb-ddr4-bu-044-as.html and i also bought a 1000 watt gold rated corsair modular power supply. As i watched CES and saw the release date for the new GPU's are coming out later this year I decided not to buy a fury and to buy a Asus 4GB R9 380 as it was better than my old card (HD 7870) and to just use that for so many months until the new GPU's come out but here is the real problem. I bought two of these graphics cards by mistake I currently have one in my system and the other one i was going to give my brother but he doesn't want it so... Should I crossfire 2 x Asus Strix 4GB R9 380's or not? would I really see an improvement from just 1? 1080P wise would this increase my FPS? or would I need to buy a 1440p monitor to notice the difference? would I need to buy a new graphics card if I had these 2? Thank you in advance!

Reece

Massive performance increase from 2 cards in 90% of titles mate.

What's your CPU & motherboard ?? They'll ultimately dictate the actual performance difference.

Where you are now with a single 380 - I'd imagine high settings at the most to lock at 60fps?? A crossfire setup in games that support it will let you absolutely max settings to your heats content.

Just seen your board - running 2 cards blocks your your other pci-express port meaning you wouldnt be able to use that pci-express ssd!

Couldn't you return one of the cards??

In all honesty with those components you should have gone with a better single card in the first place - that i7 is crying out for a 970/390 .

Why would this block my SSD I dont understand? and yes i can return the other GPU but I was just wondering if I did CrossFire then would i need to upgrade my graphics again you think?

I was thinking you had the matx version of that board - my mistake ;-/

Yeah you're good there

Its a tough call mate , not every game supports crossfire properly is the main issue.
In something that's optimised well 380 cf is insanely powerful.
In other games it'll barely make a difference.

I'm just not sure what to do :( the main game I will be playing which is why I have bought all new Components is World of Warcraft and that does have CrossFire Support, what do you guys think I should do if wow is the main and really only game I play on PC?

Well I suppose I could try it and see how everything runs with it and if its not that good I could sell these both on eBay or somewhere just in time for the new GPU's to come out and do it that way...

There is zero percent point in Crossfire R9 380 if all you play is World of Warcraft. And, in truth, crossfire support is titans away from seeing big improvement in 90% of titles. I think 20-30% at most is a much more accurate number. The system overall is highly overkill for just that game, could've built one for 300-350 GBP at most and still max the game. I guess a benefit is that you have really good killer PC and a good looking one perhaps!

From my understanding WoW, even though It's crossfire optimised, doesn't really give a bunch of extra performance. You might still be dipping below 60 fps and easily aswell.

My recommendation? Sell your current R9 380 and invest in something a bit more towards high-end. R9 390X, GTX 980 or R9 Fury/Nano.

But more ideally, since you already have it, why not put it in your system and see how it performs at all? You having nothing to lose!

I wouldn't have this problem in the first place if I just bought a Fury at the beginning but what is the point when the new GPU's will be out in 5-6 months?

I think that time span is also too long but I wish I bought a Fury but then again I am glad I am waiting I suppose... its just all this now that I am not liking :(, if I don't really notice any difference does anyone know where to sell these two graphics cards in time to come? I know eBay a lot of people use for Hardware but many people don't trust eBay for components which is fair enough. Is there a site like eBay for hardware etc.?

For 1080p a Fury is nice, but a overkill, a simple 970 will go fine.

There is no a lot of info about new GPU's, will be awesome i guess, but, i'm in your shoes, i will send back the another 380, and play with only one and wait until new GPU will come.

PS: I never played WoW, i have no idea what is the performance of a single 380.

Now, about PSU, what is your plan about it? Do a Crossfire/SLI? Or run with a single GPU? (I'm talking about the new's GPU coming with Pascal)

PS2: newegg from UK maybe?

And this is another I don't get! 50% of people say to try it and then sell them if the performance is not great then the other half say to send it back and wait... I have no idea on what to do :(, and Yeah I am living in the UK

Well, mate, the thing is that you were either going to give the R9 380 to your bother rather than sending it back. Point 2 is that if you package it nicely and carefully the way it was after you've tried the GPU in your PC and are not happy with it, you can still send it back and get a refund. As long as you do this inside a week I think? Or 2 weeks? Depends on your country and what rules the store you've bought it from has to follow.

You're making it way too much of a hassle for yourself then it actually is. The R9 380 4GB is literally laying in your house, instead of creating a thread you could just install it and see how it performs.

I will be doing it in the next hour or so just as I get home from work, I know this is a stupid question but would my 1080p monitor be able to DISPLAY 1440p? would I notice a difference?
