Hi guys. I am planning to assemble a desktop for my dad and could you use help with the components.

The purpose of the computer is daily productivity work and web browsing. No hardcore gaming.

I was looking to make one with Intel core i5. Would you recommend that or should I go for an i3. What other components should I get ? Can someone please post a configuration. I am looking to run Windows 8.1 or 10. Also, would you recommend a 256 gb ssd or a combination of ssd and hdd.

Thanks for all the help.

Most of the time yes. ssd's usually last longer and are more reliable because they have no moving parts. Eventually an ssd is going to fail because they have a certain limit of data they can transfer. However, I wouldn't worry about this because on modern drives that lifespan is pretty long.

For the long term I would recommend the i5. The i5 should remain a decent browsing/work cpu for much longer than the i3. That being said I don't know if your dad will need the speed of an ssd for browsing and more simple work related tasks.

Thanks Chilly2468. I am leaning towards SSD more for long term reliability than speed. I have heard SSD lasts longer and is more reliable. Is that true ?
