Just bought a new PSU (corsair cx750m) to replace my one that stopped working.

Connected everything up and for some reason the motherboard doesn't seem to be getting power as usually when the power is turned on the USB devices connected to the motherboard light up and they haven't. I also cannot boot the pc as the power button does not work and so the whole machine for some reason is not getting power. I have no doubt that the PSU is getting power as it is brand new but i just cant figure out why i cant boot it.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

yes, this was the first thing i checked lol, i can hear a slight clicking sound which seems to be the sound of the power going into the PSU but no further so there is definitely power getting to the PSU

not exactly what i wanted to hear as ive just bought this and so it should work should it not? regardless of how good the quality is. Is this the only thing you think it could be. I'd be pretty unlucky if they sent a faulty one

It could just be dead on arrival. Assuming you made no mistakes at all in putting together the build, or should I say plugging in the cables, it should be working, and if it makes that clicking noise when you press the power button but does nothing, it's dead on arrival.

First check to make sure the power button is turned on and that the power cable is plugged into the outlet.

Make sure that the CPU 4pin / 8 pin connector is plugged in and that giant 24 pin connector is also plugged in.

There is also that chance that you got a dead PSU, its not uncommon for people to get dead parts even if they are new. Just this weekend when I built a new budget PC for my brother, i got a dead MOBO and had to get it exchanged. After that it was working just fine.

Yes just to make sure | means on and O means off. Which I never understood because in terms of electricity, you need a completely circle for electric charges to move because they simple revolve around, the false impression is that they are shot like a gun across a straight | path.

The CX series isn't as bad as most people think it is, just not the best. Most people get it cause its normally cheap with rebates /discounts and its from Corsair, I have built 2 budget computers with it before for my family and they are still working (about 1 and 2 years old).

But of course most people who post threads about them will have issues with them, no one is going to make a thread saying that they bought a CX--- PSU from Corsair and that it works for no reason :)

Yes, after posting this I took a quick look and those CX supplies are pretty low in price. I would recommend a better supply maybe with your next build. The power supply is very important and when going bad they can actually destroy the motherboard and/or video card.

Spoken to Corsair and they advised me to do a 'paper clip' test which tests the PSU without the need for it to be connected to the motherboard. Did this and it turns out the PSU is actually working as it made one of my case fans spin. I am now looking into the fact that it may actually be a dead motherboard that i have and that it was the motherboard making the weird noise and not the power supply. Just an FYI in case of of you guys wondered where i was at with it :)

Just checked that and it looked like it needed moving one space to the left. Did that and i kid you not the whole thing got power for a brief moment as lights came on. However they did not stay on
