Custom PC won't display and dvd drive will turn on for a few seconds then turn off

Alright so I a begginer and I am building a custom pc and I have hit quite a few snags along the way, but most I have solved. Except this I don't know what went wrong. I am almost positive everything is hooked up correctly and working. The graphics card fan would run, and the dvd drive will turn on the LED for a few seconds but it won't open then nothing, the led will not be on. I pushed the force eject though and the led would turn on for a few secs again. (It only opened and closed once while doing this and it was very quick.) Now anyway back to the display. I have tried different DVI hook ups and I tried even using a old Dell Desktop. My current display is my flat screen that has a hdmi port. So I use a adapter. I don't know whats wrong. I would really appreciate any help.

The dvd drive issue could be a byproduct of your other issue. I'd personally recommend only worrying about that if it continues after you've fixed your display issue.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the MSI 970 Motherboard has RAM clips only on one side. I just ran into a similar sounding issue with my MSI X99A. It would boot to a black screen and get stuck there, prior to BIOS access. Turns out that I had repeatedly failed to install my memory modules all the way. I had been able to clip them in fully on the side that had the clip, but the other side of the memory module (the side without the clip on the motherboard) wasn't in all the way.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend removing your CPU cooling unit, and...

If you haven't already, I'd recommend removing your CPU cooling unit, and reinstalling your RAM, checking to make sure that both sides are fully clipped in, and the space between the RAM casing, and the ram slot is identical on both the top and bottom of the memory modules. If that doesn't work, my next best guess would be to try booting with each stick of memory individually, one at a time, in the first memory slot.
