Xbox one controller vs xbox 360 controller

Which do you prefer and why?
What are the most major differences between the two?

I've never extensively used an Xbox 360 controller, but I tested out the Xbox one controller and REALLY liked it, actually far more than the PS4 controller.(and I liked the PS3 controller more than the xbox 360, oddly enough)

I'm going to pick up one of the two controller for my new PC, but I'm not sure which one I should get.

There's not much difference between the two for most things, but yes, the XBO controller is pretty much perfect in terms of ergonomics (though elite version is easier for some things). The only reasons you should ever consider the 360 controller are:
1) You have a 360 and want an extra controller for that too
2) You don't want to do driver workarounds for poorly ported crap like FFXIII (which softlocks at each and every menu screen until you unplug a fully updated XBO controller)

I can't tell much of a practical difference between the two and I use both consoles on at least a weekly basis. As far as I'm concerned, I'm just frustrated by how they're practically the same thing, yet MS made them not be interchangeable. The biggest difference is that MS painted the start/select buttons differently.

I've heard bad things about the xbox 360 D-pad. Why do people not like it?
Also, I liked the matte xbox one controller finish. Does the 360 controller fell as slick as it looks?
