I have $275 in amazon gift cards and i'm planning on upgrading my PC with it. I plan on gaming with it(Fallout 4 and Doom when it comes out) on 1080p and must have a steady 60fps( Im OCD like that) I have a i5-4590 that I am going to return to amazon for a full refund and at least get a i5-4690k. I would like help in determining the best upgrade beyond that. Here are my specs:

Case: Antec one
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz
Mobo: Asus H97-PLUS HDMI, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 ATX DDR3 1600, LGA 1150 Motherboards
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Memory 12 GB
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom
SSD: SanDisk Extreme SSD 120 GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SDSSDX-120G-G25
HDD: 1TB Western Digital

1st scenario: I am going to upgrade my CPU to at least i5-4690k which would cost around $43 in all, If I go this route I have enough to upgrade my PSU and my case. My case BARELY fits the 970 and I wonder it being too snug will cause issues with cooling, cable strain, ect. I'm also not sure if my PSU is powerful enough to leave no worry's about damage.

2nd scenario: upgrade to a much more powerful CPU (like i7-4790) which would cost around $142, and just upgrade the case or the PSU with the remainder. Thanks!

If you really want to upgrade something you can get the 4690k, you wont notice a difference but in a few years you can overclock it so it will still be up to par then. That's the only reason why...

So you think the 1st scenario is a good choice? Or am I over thinking this? I also want to stay current as long as possible, I don't come into money like this often.

I don't see what your problem is here, your current setup should be able to run Fallout 4 on 1080p/60fps just fine as it is.

Even nvidia lists the 970 as a recommended card for Fallout 4 1080p/60fps on their site, and your cpu shouldnt be a bottleneck.

It runs it perfectly, I just have the money right now and would like to upgrade so I won't have to for a few years is all. If you think I should just save my money, then that is great too! What do you think about the REALLY and I mean REALLY snug GPU in the long run? and My psu?

As far as the gpu is concerned as long as you have some fans on your case (front and back) you should be fine. Judging from your case dimensions you probably have an EVGA 970? If you really want to get a new case you can though I dont think it's necessary unless you want a new look to your rig.

The PSU you have now seems to have been released in 2009? I dont know how long you've had it but it might not be a bad idea to change it out. If not, dont worry 600w is enough for your pc. If you do upgrade, I'd go for an evga supernova g2 750w just so you can have some headroom for the next few years and they are super high quality.

Thanks! I'll do just that! and no it's the larger MSI model and I mean it BARELY fits haha like 1cm of room (had to angle it in) and i've had the psu since 2012,so I suppose i'm good.
