Hey all, I have a problem with my CPU/CPU Cooler. I have the stock fans set to push air from the system out and the rad is mounted on the top of the case (Phanteks Enthoo Luxe) and I have the CPU clocked at 4.0 ghz, so a slight overclock, and yet I'm getting temperatures in excess of 80 C on the CPU when under heavy load, for example using RealBench. It is my understanding that the x61 should not have that difficult of a time keeping the CPU cool.

Did I get dealt a really bad hand in the silicon lottery or is something wrong with the cooler? Any help would be much appreciated as this is kinda ridiculous.

Checking the pipes from the water block will show if the heat is being transferred out. One pipe should be quite hot and the other cool, if one is cool and the other is only warm, then there's something wrong in the pump or block. If the cooler of the two pipes out of the radiator is still warm, then your radiator is not doing its job.

It is a challenge to seat and mount the block firmly if this is your first time. A poorly mounted or seated block would also show these symptoms.

Lastly, the thermal paste application may need to be done better.
