I have a MacBook Pro and I want an external hard drive for storing picture and home movies mainly. Don't know what to get.

Solution

USB 3.0 device. it's just an external hard drive. plugs in like any other USB device and the system will recognize it as a drive. unplug it and the device is no longer recognized.

i would get the cheapest 2+TB USB 3.0 external you can find.

WD My Passport drives are very nice and reliable. i have 2, 1 is a few years old and still works great. the other newer does also.
have also had a couple Seagate externals and had problems with both. Seagate Backup Plus gave me nothing but trouble.

Keep in mind that you don't want to keep your only copy of the files on your new external drive, use it as a backup, but keep the original copies on your main computer. If you have not space on the computer, then you want two external drives to make sure you have good backups.
