Cyclic Redundancy Check Error (chkdsk doesn't work, neither does reactivation)

So I have a hard drive (might have been password-protected, i don't know) that I had from a laptop years ago, and I tried to access the HD recently, only to find that it wouldn't show up in My PC or Recuva. I tried going into Disk Management, and my disk was there, with a red X and saying it had an error. When I clicked reactivate, it showed "Cyclic Redundancy Check" no matter what. I can't use chkdsk because it doesn't have a drive letter, and no other solutions are apparent. Before I rage quit and bring this to a shop, can anyone help me?

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, Michael!

Unfortunately, it's highly likely that your HDD has failed. :( Either way, I'd strongly recommend you to test it using the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool from their website. This utility will help you determine the health and SMART status, whereas chkdsk could potentially do more harm than good at this point.
If you can't find this software, you can refer to this thread from the community for some good third-party testing tool suggestions: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Give one of these a try and share the results here. Good luck!

yea CRC error is pretty much failed drive. If there is anything you need on there you would have to take it to a pro recovery service that has the hardware and software to access that since as long as there is a CRC error windows will not be able to access it what so ever.
