Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Want to start off by thanking all in advance as I have learned a ton from users on these, and forums alike.

I've got a question regarding whether or not swapping out my i3 4170 for an i5 4690k* would be worth it for (mostly) gaming.

Just getting back into the computer scene and my newly built setup is as follows:

Mobo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5
CPU - i3 4170
GPU - 2x SLI EVGA GTX 950 SSC (not the best in the world, but got both on deal for $220)
Ram - 8GB 1600 MHZ Patriot Signature Cas 11
PSU - Thermaltake RX 850W
HD's- 120GB Patriot Blaze & 1TB Western Digital 7200
Case - Corsair Obsidian 750D

Monitor- BenQ XL2720Z 144hz

will be slowly start dipping my toes in more modern games, right now current games are consisting of SC2, CSgo, Occasional WoW, and the game i'm enjoying the most at the moment First Assault Ghost in the Shell.

Just about every game plays pretty well, with solid Frame Rates, but I do notice occasional drops in Frames when a lot is going on (multiple grenades over a short time period for example). Looking to mitigate these drops, and while I realize the 950 SLI isn't the best setup, I feel that a CPU upgrade is in order first...at least until I get some of your opinions? What do you guys think?
Again I want to thank everyone in advance!

*I do plan on overclocking and will be getting a water-cooling setup for the CPU as well.

Current 3D Mark Firestrike scores put me right in the 8,500 range.

3DMark Score - 8522
Graphics Score - 13726
Physics Score - 5288
Combined Score - 2913
Graphics Test 1 - 65.27 fps
Graphics Test 2 - 54.97 fps
Physics Test - 16.79 fps
Combined Test - 13.55 fps

Modern 3d games will give quite a big performance gain with 2 extra cores and if you grabbed an i5 4690k and would recommend selling the i3 just for extra money when your i5 is 100% stable and everything then I could justify that for gaming as most every modern game is optimized for 4 cores (some for 8 but not alot)
