Hey guys,

I'm using a Dell Inspirion n5110 with a i7 2670QM, the rest of its specs are listed here http://www.pcworld.com/product/1290785/dell-inspiron-n5110-notebook.html .

I'm having some trouble with the touch pad and the video graphics when using Ubuntu 15.10. I ran the latest updated and upgrades through the terminal and they only soften the issues. Basically the touch pad seems to be oversensitive and the graphics aren't really smooth (kinda glitchy) when running a video or even scrolling on a webpage.

The touch pad detects my movement even when my finger is above it (about 0.5 mm). Sometimes it detects a double-click and also moves away when clicking, resulting in me clicking somewhere else (hope you get the picture).

I'm a total noob with Ubuntu but I guess you already figured that. I'd really appreciate if someone can help me out on this one. My best guess is that maybe Ubuntu isn't really designed to work with my laptop, so does anyone know a compatible version?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
In ubuntu and other linux there is one generic TouchPad driver, synaptics. There is no way for all touchpads to behave the exact same so syanptics is very nicely configurable to accomodate! The easy way is to use synclient and/or it's gui

Please read the archwiki and ubuntu wiki thoroughly.

Regarding the graphics card. On ubuntu a new other linux there exist two drivers for ati/amd cards. The default opensource driver and proprietary driver. The proprietary driver "catalyst" can be easily installed via the additional drivers and software in ubuntu.
