DP and Mini-DP or HDMI?

Hello,
(Sorry if there are already other threads on this, I had a quick look and couldn't find any with the exact same query)

I have a decent understanding of hardware, but not this exact problem.

My brother just upgraded his PC and he knows basically nothing about hardware, he had a friend of his pick out parts, he bought them and I'm putting it together for him.

He bought a 144hz monitor, but the GPU he bought does not have any DP ports (only DVI, HDMI and mini DP). I know there are options, however my question is about quality.

If i just do the easiest option and buy a DP to mini DP cable (DP from the monitor into mini DP on the GPU), will that negatively effect the quality at all or will it be the same as a normal DP to DP cable?
Basically what is the best option to not have quality effected, and still be able to properly utilize the 144hz?

Thanks for any help.

The quality of the transfer can't suffer from the adapter because the signal is purely digital and the transfer will be restarted if anything arrived wrong, but if you use a very low quality adapter the number of resends can increase because of transfer failures and the bandwith will suffer (not the quality). But that is mostly theoretical because most adapters, even the cheap ones are doing just fine without any problems.
I would generally use DP whenever it's available, the only reason to use HDMI is to be compatible for multimedia usage (for example the Connection to a TV) or in the rare case that the components support HDMI 2.0 because that finally has enough data bandwith for high refresh rates and higher resolutions (> 1080p).

I did hear that DVI would work for the 144hz monitor, although his current 60 or 120hz (not sure) is using the DVI. So I could switch the old monitor to HDMI and switch the new monitor to the DVI, that would just require buying 2 new cables/adapters instead of one, that's all.

So was just curious about if mini DP works fine, since that's the simplest option at the moment.

Ah ok, so I guess I'll just go with a DP to mini-DP cable then, that would definitely be the easiest.
Thanks a lot for the reply and info.
