Hi, I recently purchased a msi gtx 970 GPU, and I have been running on old AMD setup but am starting to realize i should switch to Intel. I'm looking for a cpu + motherboard combo that will not bottleneck my GPU, and is in the price range of around 300 dollars. Also, I've never really overclocked (afraid to lol) is that something i should look into to help not bottleneck? thanks so much!

DDR3 and DDR4 perform equivalently on intel processors in general.
But the DDR3 ram that is generally used needs higher voltage than the 1.35v supported on skylake, so one might as well but the faster ddr4 since it costs about the same as ddr3.
for the money look at h97 mb and a 4590 cpu on parts picker. if you have a local micro center look at there skylake mb and cpu combo. with skylake mb you need ddr4 ram. any newer cpu you wont need to over clock them to work well with most gpu. as long as the cpu has 4 cores and you have 8g or more of 1600 or faster ram you be fine. with the k cpu and z mb you pay extra for bells and whistles needed for good entry level gaming rig.
