Which processor will be better at gaming with NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti (low budget -_-)and 8 GB DDR4 RAM

Intel i3-6100 (3M Cache, 3.70 GHz)

or

Intel i5-6400 (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)

Does CPU's cache memory really matter?

Also do most recent games require 4 physical cores in CPU?

How many years/months till the 2 Core processors fall behind the gaming race?

Solution
Cache doesn't matter much in gaming, not your priority. Main priority is the GPU. gtx 750Ti will give up way before the i3-6100 reaches 100%. Also i5-6400 is one of the worst choices, better i5-4590 or i5-6500. But just get either the i3-6100 or i3-4130 and you are good to go. Just know, the GPU will hit the ceiling way before the cpu.

For most games 2 core processor will be enough for at least few years but when new console generations arrive in 2-3 years your processor will not be enough for most AAA games.
Some games today to not turn on on i3 but few tweaks and game will work.
And better take i3-6100 with Z170 mobo and decent CPU cooler you can OC it to around 4.5+ Ghz
Anyway your entire budget and Country ? I can chose you better parts.

The various processor caches directly affects the ability of a core to execute instructions. If the instructions nad data can be found in cache, it reduces wait cycles significantly compared to accessing the same data from RAM.

Determining the size of cache is a complex part of processor design and is accounted for in the performance characteristics of processors. You need not directly concern yourself with the cache size, since that is not a factor you can influence. Usually cache size increases with the number of cores, since more cores need a larger cache to avoid cache misses in their execution cycles. .

Here is a benchmark comparison of the two processors. Make sure to copy and paste the link, not just click, since the forum software can't handle the URL.

Pay attention to the "single core performance" value. Most games actually only use a single thread for it's code. Some games have a limited amount of multi-tasking.

THe main difference between the i5 range and the i3 range is that the i5 has 4 cores and allow more multi-tasking than the i3 range.

Can you please tell why is i5 6400 is one of the worst choices? I am not deep into the processors.

Thanks for clearing that up!
