I have an old pc with 1.5 g RAM I don't play games on but its too slow. The motherboard does not support more than 2 gb of maximum ram. I upgraded the Ram size to 1.5.I don't know what paging file size size do I have to set for good performamence, or should I switch to do instead of win 7?

Solution
Agree with ss202sl, wouldn't run x64 with anything less than 3GB ram, especially if memory being used by any type of shared video card.
Version of Windows don't matter.

Performance hit is caused by swapping. Increase swap file size is like buying more coffin, you are heading to the hole. Increase RAM is the real fix. If unable to increase RAM beyond 2G, I suggest trash PC and buy completely new. There is no magic.

You might be interested in trying version of Linux as you said you do not play games. They run well with less memory. Great for surfing the web. You can run it from a live CD (I assume your older system has one) so you can try it and see how you like it without changing anything on your system. Ubuntu is what I would recommend as a starter.
