I'm still new to the building a pc world. I just came across the specs page for the Skylake i7 6700k http://ark.intel.com/products/88195/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz

For memory types it states: DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

I'm hoping to get this CPU and its been out of stock so been waiting, but I already have a Corsair Vengeance LPX 2X8GB 2666MHz http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0123ZC6CO?keywords=corsair%20vengeance%20lpx%2016gb&qid=1452872222&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5

Are these two parts compatible?

Solution
Ram speed compatibility is more determined by motherboard chipset, than CPU. For instance, my 3570k is specified as being rated to use DDR3 1600, yet I run at 1866. My Z77 motherboard supports the higher ram speeds. Make sure to pick a Z170 board, that supports that memory speed.

I have the very same set and it works just fine with my 6600k, just use the XMP profile to get the full speed as Skylake's memory controller defaults to a maximum of 2133MHz. You'd need a Z170 board to support the higher memory speed, but if you're getting the 6700k you're probably getting one anyway so you can overclock easily.
