So I have had a few problems with my PC, one being it gets "surges" and makes a grinding like noise.

I took it to the technicians and the surge never occurred there or the grinding noise.

My PC is in a boxed in area, with space for fans of course but could this be the problem to why it is doing this?

Ok, so no lightning common. How about somewhat regular power outages?

Connected straight to the wall is not a good idea. You should have a surge protector in between. Any power outages (or even the breaker being tripped) instantly cuts power to your rig. That's really not good for any of your components, especially the PSU.

As far as the burning plastic smell, that is concerning. I'd look to replace your PSU to be on the safe side, unless you can identify where the burning plastic smell is coming from.

Can you post your full spec and location? Not sure what you mean by "surges" though. If it didn't occur while elsewhere, chances are it's something to do with the location it's stored in. Are you in an area known for power surges (for example). Are you connected to a surge protector? Is the area hot?

Anyway, post your full specs & we'll take it from there. There could be a number of things, but please try to explain the "surges" a bit more.

GPU - Zotac GTX 970 - Previously 660Ti
CPU - i7 4770k @ 3.5Ghz
PSU - Cooler Master 650W of some sort
Motherboard - Asus H18M-PLUS
1TB Sata Hard Drive + Recently 320GB Sandisk SSD

When I play games for around 30-60 minutes I get a power surge from ASUS something like that and it pisses me off, i don't know why it does it, but if I put a standard desk fan infront of my PC it seems to hold for a couple of hours before surging.

Ok, I understand now. I dont believe the GPU getting hot is actually related. You might want to get some compressed air and clean out the inside of your case & GPU fans to deal with that (although 80'C isn't too too high for a GPU at stress)

The ASUS anti-surge being triggered would lead me to look into your power supply. It's likely providing inconsistent power, with 'spikes' (hence the ASUS software thinks a surge is occurring).

Are you in an area where things like lightning is common?

Is your computer connected directly to the wall, or attached to a surge protector?

Have you tried different sockets? It's possible you have some defective electric cabling in your house.

My PC smells like burning plastic when it gets this hot therefore I thought it may be something to do with it.
