HI,

I am about to buy a new PC.

Core i5 | 8 GB Ram | 120 GB SSD | 1 TB Hard Drive | GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2 GB

I have selected two processors and two motherboards.

Core i5 4670K and Core i5 4690

ASUS H81M-E and ASUS B85M-G

I prefer H81M-E with Core i5 4670K

As i won't be using more than 16GB RAM so 2 slots are enough plus its cheaper.
Will this be perfect? or same processor (i5 4670K) with B85M-G will give different performance?

ASUS B85M-G has more features so will it work more fast with 4670K as compared to H81M-E?

or what combination would be good?

Thanks
Talal

Solution
Since the 4670k is cheaper, go ahead and go with that. I just remembered, that those boards also might need to have a bios update, in order to use the other chips, as they are haswell refresh chips. The 4670k is not, so it should work, in those boards, without the need for a bios update.

Alright, so then i have these, 4690 (3.5) | 4670K (3.4) | 4590 (3.3) | 4460 (3.2).

As 4670K is 3.4GHz and cheaper than 4690 (3.5) but better than 4590 (3.3) or lower. So should i buy (4670K) it by ignoring "K" just because it has extra 100 MHz than 4590.?... my point: - is there any disadvantage here in that case? (other than not being able to overclock)

also suggest which motherboard:
Asus H81M-E? or will there be difference with Asus B85M-G?

They may work. Like logainofhades suggested, the board may need a bios update and if it does it may also need an older cpu installed to perform the bios update. Why not just get an h97 that's actually compatible for the cpu's you're considering? It may work and it may not but there's a chance you're going to give yourself a number of headaches.

It would be different if you already owned a b85/h81 board. Then if you needed to update the bios to accept the cpu upgrade you'd already have the hardware required. The idea behind compatibility was to be able to update an existing board to work with newer cpu's, not really intended to be part of a new purchase pairing an outdated motherboard with a newer cpu.

Since i am not going for overclocking.. so, finally i have decided to go for non "K" version which is even cheaper..

so now my final decision is Core i5 4690 with H81M-E motherboard..

Please tell me is there anything wrong with this combination?
