Hi guys! Huge thanks in advance for the help.

So, I'm trying to button up an old editing project and the external RAID array that holds the data has gone down. It starts up momentarily but then shuts down when the fan sounds like its reaching full speed.

My hope is that I can just buy a new RAID enclosure and move the drives from the old one into the new one.

Would it be so simple? What else do I need to keep in mind as I approach this project? Is there any particular piece of software that I will need to read the array in the new enclosure without losing my data?

This is the enclosure that I currently have, which is malfunctioning:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816322004&cm_re=mediasonic_hfr2-su2s2-_-16-322-004-_-Product

It is currently set as a RAID 5 with 4 HDDs in the array.

I am also wondering if there may be a cheaper solution, such as an internal RAID controller that could attain the same results.

Thanks so much, everyone!

If you buy the same unit you SHOULD be able to just toss it in and go. Getting a RAID card might be a better solution. If you get something that is LSI based and that card fails and you replace it with any other LSI based card it will pick up the RAID. Just hope the drives aren't dead though.

If you can't get the same on or it doesn't pick up the raid you may have to buy a program like RStudio to recovery the RAID
