Computer Powering off like it's been unplugged

My computer keeps powering off like its unplugged. Happens about every day. Once it loads windows it never happens but always seems to happen after it passes the screen where I can enter the bios and before my background loads.

I have ran Memtest86+ for 18 hours with no errors.

I have ran Prime95 overnight and got a single fatal error on core 7 of my processor after about 4 hours. The other cores ran with no errors for about 12 hours.

I am currently backing up my primary hard drive to do a clean install of Windows.

I also went out and bought a brand new corsair PSU that's well above the power I need.

I have verified all temps are good using Cupid HW, and unless I am getting voltage spikes during start up all voltages are within range.

Specs
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate
AMD FX-8350 8 core 4.00 GHz
16 Gigs of G.Skill DDR3-1866
AMD Radeon R9 270
Windows installed on a 460g HyperX SSD
Most programs are installed on a 1B Seagate HDD

Could a GPU cause these shutdowns? I had some weird screen issues out of my GPU before my last driver update but that has since stopped.

I really hope it isn't my CPU but the only thing I have seen wrong is that one fatal error.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Solution
do you have or can borrow a videocard to see if problem still happens? motherboard can also be a problem not the cpu.

Undo any overclocks and check if your cpu thermal grease has not become hard, if it is you need to clean and re-apply thermal grease, also check if your cpu cooler is not dusty and working properly. Also check what bios version you have and see if there any updates for it. Google any known issue with your particular bios version to rule out bugs etc. Only update bios at last resort though, for now check if cpu properly seated and thermal grease is good and cooler is properly placed on the cpu.

Once having done that try using cmos jumper to get into maintenance mode and load defaults and boot up and monitor.

Rig is not overclocked and never has been. Thermal grease is fine on cpu. bios is fully updated and could not find any information on MB bugs causing issues similar to mine. Using Corsair H55 cooling unit and everything gets cleaned once a month. My motherboard does not have on board video.

Since original post I have done a clean install of windows. The issue only occurs about once every 4 start ups/shut downs and happens 2-4 times in a row then everything works fine including playing very intensive video games and video editing.

Computer crashed for the first time during normal use today when trying to watch a youtube video. Proceeded to power off 3 times in a row before it became stable again. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I added a little thermal grease to my CPU and ran Prime95 for 16 hours and had no errors. My TMPIN2 did get to around 67 C but the mainboard stayed well below 40 ( think is said 37). Again everything seems to be leading to some fault in the start up/shut down process of the GPU.

I gave my old gaming PC to my niece I might jack the GPU from her and see if I get any faults out of it.

Glad to hear your FX 8350 is working perfectly, seems now its being cooled properly, its extremely rare for a cpu to fail. In my case my gpu when correctly inserted into the pcie slot does not actually line up the case properly, causing my dvi cable of my monitor to touch the case when connect to the graphics card. This caused my pc to shut off with warning beeps indicating graphics card error or the monitor would just shut off by itself. Took me awhile to find the fault and now have not had an issue since. My case is very rare though may be it can help you hopefully.

Yeah I'm gonna guess that isn't my problem as I have a very clean wire install. I installed special standoffs in my case to ziptie to. No wires touch anything but each other. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yeah I can boot the computer all the way up in normal or safe mode. it just takes a few tries to get it there some times. other times it boots right up and there is no issue at all.

So I went and stole my old HD4650 from my niece and installed it. I started and shut down my computer around 20 times and no problem. As soon as I put my R9 270 back in it shut down two times in a row. At this point unless it's a weird mix of two components causing this, it's my GPU. Two years old time to upgrade anyways :) Thanks everyone for the help.
