Help me pick a cpu for gaming/streaming

I've been researching for a very long time what is the cheapest best performing cpu I can get for my custom build. I realize I don't really need an i7 4790k for gaming as an i5 will perform just as well. My question is will an i7 really make a noticeable difference when it comes to streaming while gaming? To my knowledge I don't think it will be noticeable enough to really notice or be worth the extra money. I then discovered the xeon e3 1231 v3 which has the i7 specs just without the iGPU and at a much cheaper price but again if the i7 specs makes very minimal differences when it comes to streaming a game there is no point to pay the extra money as it is really only a bit more than an i5 4690. I don't see the point in overclocking as gaming/streaming doesn't really need it so I'm hoping to steer away from the 'k' series as they are more expensive and not really needed. So I really have my mind set on the i5 4690 or if I can get away with it the i5 4460 ($50 cheaper). Help me please! Thanks. (For the record my mind is set on purchasing an Intel CPU's)

The Xeon is probably the best bet. HyperThreading does help with streaming but there is no reason to pay i7 prices when you can get a Xeon with identical performance for just a bit more than an i5.

Thanks for your input. Do you really know how much the hyperthreading actually helps streaming though? I would really like to save extra money and of course would rather just to have an iGPU. This is a very good reference in my opinion. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2523393/4790k-hyperthreading-improve-live-streaming.html
Check out what the user 'synful' has to say about hyperthreading and i5/i7 performances.

i use I-7 3770k its not expensive and its very well handle gaming and streaming.my was ~20$ more for K version i dont regret pc almoust .2.5 years old and it handle well now you you need more expensive hardware to handle streaming and gaming cause you gonna compete with others and to get ahead some games dont handle well like SLI for etc.

UPDATE! PC is ~2.5 years old.

In general I really only recommend going i7 (or cheaper Xeon) if you are serious about it or simply have to much money to care about the cost. So if you are planning on being serious about your game streaming and don't want to worry about it than yes an i7 would be the way to go.

If you're just doing it as a now and then hobby kind of thing or you're not worried about it being the absolute best capture than a good ol' i5 will be perfectly fine.

Of the two i5s you listed I'd go with the i5-4690 as it's slightly cheaper per Ghz provided and will turbo up to 3.9 which should last you for years with a nice cooler. That said the i5-4460 isn't going to gimp you so if saving that $50 is really important it's an okay trade off.

I agree with the Xeon E3 1231 V3 socket 1150 if streaming is important to your useage and economy is a factor as it is with me. I am relieved that Tom's has put it into cpu lists. Remember to check which socket the cpu will fit into, as some are 1150 or SkyLake 1151 or even 1155 for some older cpus that are on good sales. Good luck.
