neew mother board oem windows

So my old motherboard broke, and was no longer under warranty. I have windows 7 oem version although the pc was running windows 10 from the free upgrade. So I got a new motherbaord. I tried contacting microsoft via their online chat and they would refuse to give me the new key and said I had to contact the oem. The computer was custom built so it wasnt from like hp or dell. I bought all the parts and then sent them to a pc shop where they downloaded windows for me. I have seen other people being given new keys why wont they give me one?

I don't know where youve seen other people given new keys, only if you had retail windows which you did not. OEM versions ties itself to the hardware. You need to buy a new copy of Windows, end of story.

There are multiple level of 'valid' in that statement.

If MS says contact who you got it from, that is your only recourse.
MS is sometimes lenient on a replacement motherboard, but they are under no obligation to do so.

If you've contacted MS, and they said to talk to who you got it from.....that is what you do.
There is no way around that.

If you have a defective motherboard, or it breaks within the first 30 days of ownership yeah they will probably give you a new key. If you have anything thats beyond the warranty period they are going to tell you sorry you're SOL. Otherwise everyone would do that and keep rolling Windows copies over and over.
